SUMMARY:Author visit by Anna Housley Juster reading "How to Train your Amygdala" and "The Best Good Thing: Discovering Joy on a Very Bad\, Smad Day""
DESCRIPTION:Proceeds from the sales of “How to Train Your Amygdala” and “The Best Good Thing: Discovering Joy on a Very Bad\, Smad Day” will be donated to the Brookline Early Education Program. \nAnna Housley Juster\, PhD\, LICSW is a licensed child and adolescent mental health clinician\, education consultant\, and award-winning author with over twenty-five years of experience supporting children and families.  Dr. Housley Juster began her career as a Head Start teacher and spent many years working in curriculum development across formal and informal contexts including schools\, museums\, libraries\, and children’s educational media.  For several years\, Dr. Housley Juster served as director of content at Sesame Workshop overseeing curriculum development for the Sesame Street series and product development across the brand. \nThe amygdala in How to Train Your Amygdala makes complicated concepts accessible to children so they can understand their bodies\, practice impulse control\, and boost their self-regulation.  Throughout the book\, the amygdala and the reader practice anxiety-calming and mindfulness strategies such as deep breathing\, visualization\, and progressive relaxation. With anxiety on the rise among children\, learning how to calm the amygdala is a critical life skill. \n\nIn The Best Good Thing\, nothing is going well. The young narrator sharing about her day is feeling sad and mad. Smad! She knows there are no good things about the day. Her mother listens\, sympathizes\, and suggests intentionally looking for positives. The story becomes a relatable search for good things\, which are all around. A flower\, a kind neighbor\, yummy bread. Ultimately\, she discovers the best good thing of all: love.

SUMMARY:Author Event - Gabrielle Rossi Reading from "Lizzie Learns to Ride"
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Gabrielle Rossi is the author of Lizzie Learns to Ride\, a children’s book about a girl who’s terrified of riding but finds the courage to try. It’s published with Strong Girl Publishing\, which is dedicated to creating empowering content for young female athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.  \nRossi is an educator and founder of Girls in Gear\, a national nonprofit helping girls discover joy\, confidence\, and freedom through bicycling. Having spent over a decade leading youth-centered organizations that use movement and play as tools for personal growth\, she brings a deep\, research-backed understanding of how learning to ride can shape resilience\, courage\, and self-belief. Girls in Gear will offer a $25 program or clinic voucher with every book purchase made at the store. \nA former hesitant rider herself\, Rossi has now taught hundreds of girls across the country to find joy on the bike\, cheering on first-time pedalers\, celebrating fearless climbers\, and reminding young riders that bravery often begins with big feelings and tiny steps. \n“I wrote this book because I know exactly what it feels like to be the kid who isn’t sure she’s ready\,” said Dr. Gabrielle Rossi. “Learning to bike is really learning to trust yourself. With a little bravery\, and maybe your favorite stuffie\, anything is possible.” \nIllustrated by Emjay Haislip\, a Washington D.C.–based artist known for vibrant\, emotion-forward storytelling\, Lizzie Learns to Ride follows one girl’s journey from uncertainty to confidence as she takes her first wobbly pedal strokes. Haislip shared\, “It’s the first picture book I’m illustrating that will be published\, which is a huge dream of mine. I love creating stories that help kids navigate big emotions or new challenges\, and I think Lizzie will be a great encouragement to young riders everywhere.”
