SUMMARY:Silent Book Club / Concert - CANCELED
DESCRIPTION:This is a very special event that will combine the first meeting of the Turtle Books Silent Book Club with a concert by Melissa Dulla on cello.   We’ll meet at 6\, socialize for 20 minutes\, then read to ourselves (together) for an hour\, and finish with refreshments.  Simply BYOB (bring your own book) and read.  We start at 6 and end by 8. \nChildren are welcome if they are capable (and willing) to read quietly for an hour.  You know your kid and can decide. \nIf you haven’t heard of a Silent Book Club\, then check out these links.  This is a no-stress event.  What you read is up to you and no awkward discussions required regarding character\, motivation\, and plot (unless you want to).   Just read\, while listening to the gentle melodies provided by our musicians and enjoy the camaraderie of other joyful readers. \nRSVP below. \nWant to learn more.  Check these links below. \nHow Does A Silent Book Club Work \n\n

SUMMARY:"The Librarians" Film Screening at Brookline Main Library
DESCRIPTION:We will be selling copies of Mike Curato’s challenged book\, Flamer at this library hosted event. \nThe documentary The Librarians aims to provide resources and tools to connect folks with organizations fighting for our Freedom to Read and to uphold our First Amendment Rights—freedom to access information\, the freedom to learn and enrich oneself\, and the fight against the weaponization of language to silence library voices and stifle the freedom of expression. \nJoin us at our Brookline Village location in Hunneman Hall to watch this critically acclaimed documentary followed by a panel that will provide context for what has been happening in Massachusetts with regard to book challenges and bans. Following the screening\, visitors will hear from author\, Mike Curato\, as well as Andrea Fiorello and Jennifer Varney: librarians who are key players in the Massachusetts Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom and Social Responsibilities Committee.  Register at “The Librarians” Film Screening – Events – Public Library of Brookline.
